What is SOS ?

Mental health includes emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. The SOS event serves as a platform to uplift our emotional and mental wellbeing by introducing a range of activities and events, hence saving our souls from the inevitable doom that comes with seeing and talking to the same people every day.

SOS or "save our souls” is an awakening, a calling for the people who need help. It wants to highlight that to help yourself you are the one who will have to take charge of it. This is signified from the word ‘our’.

Why are we doing SOS ?

In the light of events taking place around us, we felt that SOS would be a getaway from the gloom of everyday life and would encourage everyone to celebrate the importance of mental health and mental wellbeing.

According to a survey conducted by the World Health Organisation, Over 60% reported disruptions to mental health services for vulnerable people, including children and adolescents (72%), older adults (70%), and women requiring antenatal or postnatal services (61%)  (World Health Organization, 2020).

Keeping in mind these statistics, through SOS, we aim to bring together high school teenagers who have coiled under the burden of being confined in physical spaces due to COVID-19.

People think that "someone" will bring a change on how mental health is viewed and help in removing the stigma,  everyone is waiting for that “someone”.  But, we have realised that waiting for that “ someone” to bring the change would do no good and want to be that "someone" . Though this might be a small step, however, we hope together with our team members we can bring a positive change in someone’s life.
